The Context
Bedsure, an overseas home brand, wanted to understand how Chinese consumers perceive international brands on Xiaohongshu — without heavy ad spend.
We ran a lightweight content test to explore social trust dynamics for foreign brands entering (or re-entering) the China market.
What We Learned
Scenarios > Brand Names
Users care more about “how people in the UK actually use this” than “this is a famous brand.” On Xiaohongshu, localised usage context beats global credentials.
“Personal Share” > “Brand Introduction”
Content that feels like a friend’s recommendation performs better than product specs. Authenticity is what drives engagement here.
Comments = Real Demand Signals
Questions like “Where to buy?” and “Does it work in UK weather?” reveal genuine market interest. Xiaohongshu is better for building awareness & trust than immediate conversion.
Our Take
For overseas brands, Xiaohongshu should be treated as a trust-building platform, not a direct sales channel — at least in early stages.
Low-cost testing beats heavy investment until you validate real demand.
